    Hi,I have a trike with a xj650 maxim engine.
The problem is its the yics engine and the previous owner has put on the carbs from a standard maxim (not yics)
It wont start in winter, and takes a while to warm up in summer!do these carbs need rejetting?carbs have sponge filters on.
    Any help gratefully received!!

YICS should not matter , sounds like your carbs need to be taken to church , Start there you will need to pull carbs off and break the rack while doing this replace the butterfly seals . You will need to soak the carbs to do full clean , this is reason butterfly seals need replaced soaking will destroy seals. The float bowls have a tiny enrichment jet that cannot be removed this is usual cause of hard starting , a piece of .20th safety wire or an equivalent guitar string and some carb cleaner is all you need to do , usually gets this back in working order.

    Hi,thanks for that.
It did run in summer but since we've had cold weather it just wont start!
I will try what you suggested though.
    Many thanks!

    Charge the Battery good.

If the carbs are 1980, the enricher well jet IS removable

YICS carbs were jetted a tad leaner than non YICS carbs, which should make cold starts easier in your case.
A good cleaning is in order (including new throttle shaft seals if they have not already been replaced).
