After fitting a new master cylinder, new piston seals & stainless steel lines, I couldn't get the air out, tried all the usual methods, without success, until I loosened the bleed nipples, one at the time & forced the pistons back in, that cleared the bulk of the air & was able to bleed in the normal way.
    Might help some frustrated soul.

    Thanks - good tips..

Last time I did this I used a large syringe attached to a plastic tube going to the bleed nipple and setup a funnel with brake-fluid in the res... Just sucking the fluid through like this instead of trying to pump it, pulled all the air out and was much better than any other techniques I tried before. Just have to get it setup so it's easy to empty the syringe back into the funnel as you go and never let it get anywhere near empty, after 5 or 6 passes it was air free.

It helps to have two syringes to do this and have a plan for where to dump excess fluid at the end - but it really works well I thought and I did it on my own.

Yeah - same principal except mine cost me $5. The kits are probably easier to use though.

Yeah that looks pretty much like what I used but thinking about it, filling from bottom up makes a lot more sense - doh.

doesn't matter. do one side (loosen, push in fluid, tighten, repeat) till fluid comes out the relief hole in the master. then when you do the second caliper, the air from it will bubble out the relief hole. when you get no bubbles from the second side, wiggle the lever to get the air stuck in the pump
put lots of teflon tape on the bleeder, leave some room in the syringe to suck out air in the hose, then pump in only fluid
