That looks good! Tight end of spec is still in spec. It's hard to know if they'd been adjusted before, but I'm sure you'll check them again after...
Welcome! After you post 5 times, you're allowed to post photos here. You could alternatively, post elsewhere and link to them before that. You've...
Heh, I have 2 Yamahas, this and my '90 FZR1000. I also have a '68 BSA Spitfire Mk IV in pieces in my basement. Working on refurbing the front...
I had the entire garage moved into a 26" u-haul last October (and the bikes in my parent's garage). The floor was done and I insulated the rest...
I mostly starred at it. I rode it briefly yesterday, today is stormy. [ATTACH]
Of all the steps in that tank build process, the machine that cuts off the extra sheet metal scares me! That'll take your fingers quicker than you...
I found a really nice tank to replace my original. The paint is perfect with the only imperfection being cracks in the decals. I'll treat the...
nice to see others have used the 555 timer! That was a favorite chip of mine back in the day.
Tank is kind of crinkled, but at least it has the airbox!
I have the 1/2" and 3/8" Tekton wrenches, but haven't had the need for the 1/4" (yet).
no kidding! Good news is things should be better by the weekend. Fingers crossed!
And they made such an effort to cut the switch hold nicely!
Not sure this got into the ebay forum, but I got a notification about this today:...
If you pull the side-stand relay, that effectively bypasses that feature (or so I hear). At that point, I wonder if it will pay attention to...
Use something like metal rescue or evapo-rust. Both work very well. Not sure about how either would affect the sender, but would certainly make it...
For the record, is this bike in PA or Norway? Do you have any recent photos?
I may have to visit the "museum" this coming Carb Clinic!
They're calling your name, @hogfiddles !
I realize this may not be the cause of your trouble, but I'll leave a link to this helpful thread for the future:...
Not sure if you posted elsewhere about this, but have you replaced the fuse box? The stock one is notorious for causing voltage problems. The...
I thought there was a radiator out front there, but that may be something else.
I saw this posted by a local station I listen to... Apparently Gwen Stefani getting Sting to sign her Synchronicity album. I notice the Yamaha...
Yes, this is confusing wording... " so that each cam lobe in turn is pointed "skyward" away from its bucket at a 90 degree angle from the surface...
180 degrees (with the lobe away from the valve bucket) will give you the best reading.
How's compression? When the bike runs, can you tell if #4 pipe gets warm if you hold it above idle? Just wondering if the main jet works?
I knew something looked "off" in the rear... literally, the shocks are "off"!
@Timbox looks like you have the HarborFreight lift as well. What did you do for a wheel chock? Did you use the one provided? (curious, now that...
This is a really good point! I recall one forum member who's frame had rusted internally in that area and the side stand mount was barely hanging...
Relevant? maybe, funny? yes! [ATTACH]
There's a wiring diagram here: http://www.lumien.se/stuff/xj550/ How many miles on the bike? Curious about the "new head" comment.
Got a decent wheel chock for it and got that installed today. The one that comes with the lift is pretty useless. [ATTACH] [ATTACH]
My back is feeling it today! Got it uncrated an in position, but have yet to do anything with it... suppose I'll need to get the bikes hanging...
Till Monday, they have the 10% off any one item... if you are in their club ($30/yr), you get 20% off any one item. My wife wanted to get me their...
I realize it isn't done, but I'd worry about sliding off the back of that seat and onto the tire! Hold on tight! :-)
[ATTACH] This XJ650 went for sound money, nothing crazy, but what we'd hope for in a private, I think.
I'm not suggesting this isn't an outlier, but maybe the FZR1000s are hitting their stride? [ATTACH]
That reminds me, the one that came on my 550 seca has a ton of holes in it. Someone thought it would add more power, obviously. It was convenient...
What master cylinder are you using? It should be 14mm bore or larger, or you won't get good brake feel. I only know this because I put some...
I'd look for a new carb body. Ebay, or @hogfiddles are good bets.
Interesting. I doubt the 20-30 minute install. It takes at least that long to wrestle the airbox out! ;-)
This post has a bunch of info on adjustments if you scroll down to where it talks about the "The Idle Mixture Screw Settings"...
I'd be interested in a 650 turbo with trashed plastics. I'd like to try my hand at customizing and never liked the stock look of that bike. :-)
good luck!
Wow, I always thought the red 550R's were 82/83 where the 83 dropped the front cowling.
I believe they were European models. They had 2 front disks and an oil cooler. Europe didn't get the Maxim model.
This might be useful. http://www.jetav8r.com/Vision/IgnitionFAQ.html Specifically: http://www.jetav8r.com/Vision/ImageGallery1/0060.jpg
Here's how my kerker 4-1 fits on my bike. This picture is several years ago before I made some of the engine covers pretty and got a better...
That's a beauty!
@Noahsxj just to be clear, the kit to convert is $100. Filters are as cheap as you'd expect for spin-ons... like 5-10 bucks depending.
