I recently purchased this bike as a project and it's missing a few components I am trying to round up. I have a Clymer service manual but I am not finding much about the air box and the filter that goes in it. That's what I assuming goes in the empty space in the photos I attached.

I have the cover ordered but does the filter just sit inside there and insert into that rectangle hole? Am missing something else? Any information helps or a point in the right direction.

In the box are tabs that holds the air filter. Then on the back side of the cover are tabs that hold the filter. The filter is half cylinder shaped with a foam seal on the flat side that goes against the opening to the carbs.

Your next project should be replacing the fuse box this will save you some headaches.

Ok so finding some replacement tabs was the only thing I was missing then. And yes that is on my to do list. I have been trying to read up as much as possible and that seems like a very popular topic on these forums. Much appreciated!

The tabs are molded in the box and the cover.

Guess I wasn't seeing tabs inside the box and I have a cover on order as it was not available with the bike when purchased, but good to know thanks.

That's exactly what the service manual said but I was a little skeptical about the simplicity.

i don't know if you cleaned it up or not but that fine brown stuff in the airbox doesn't look like any i've seen in a street bike airbox.
maybe look in the headlight bucket or open up the handlebar controls looking for that same brown stuff.
but then again, if it runs, it don't matter

I have not cleaned much of anything up but I live up in Montana so a lot of "street" bikes tend to get ridden on dirt roads a lot.
