Disassembled my front forks today. I have a 13cm steel spacer tube in between my tube cap (part with air fitting) and my spring. I don't see this in any of my manuals. (including XJCD online).
Is this a modification added by a PO, or just poorly drawn lines 35 years ago in Japan?

Sorry, no pics. Don't have my phone at work.

    Thanks guys.

That's your answer! That spacer should be there.

my 650G fsm says 606 80 and 81 650 uses same spring and does not have the 13 cm spacer

haynes manual has spring length as 467mm
    for 650J

15W fork oil is what I run. The published recommendations are for somewhat "less prosperous" riders. You might have to play around with it a bit until you have a good compromise between damping sufficiently, and not being too harsh over sharp bumps.

Disassembled right hand fork and found spring seat (between spring and spacer number 23 on the pic) is missing. Could I just use a proper sized washer, or am I risking damage to the internals of my tube?

Schrader valve is buggered as well. Just can't win this week.

(FIXED THE BUGGERED VALVE. WAS ABLE TO GET A EXTRACTOR IN TO IT AND REMOVED FROM THE HOUSING.)

OK. Barring any last minute advice, I'm going to reassemble as it stands.
Not sure how long it ran without spacer but Len does not list the part and it does not look any worse for wear.
