Could be a bad petcock, is it vacuum operated? Don't know if it matters, but what happens is, the bike runs on the fuel in the carbs, then when that runs out, it dies and has to sit until they slowly fill up again. If you have a "slow" or leaky petcock, that is. Does it have a PRI setting like an XJ? You could try that...

Sounds like a bad petcock. If the bike had been sitting for some time it may just be time to rebuild the petcock. When these little bikes are running right they scream for a little 50. Got mine from a friend. It was in a garage for about 20 years. Used to ride it up and down the street. A lot of parts from a YSR50 motor will work on it too. The trans is really the only difference. Make sure the 2 stroke oil doesn't run out too. From what I understand there were only 2000 of these bikes made. Each dealership got one. The red ones were the most common. I have the black and gold version.

A bit off topic but can anyone tell me where this goes? Thought I knew: side cover. But looking again and again... don't think so. 15080928593731773167459.jpg

That is an oil retention block that goes into the crankcase, behind one of the engine side covers. I think it's on the left side of the engine for that one; behind the shifter cover.

In the future it would be best to start a thread, instead of digging up an old one that's not related to your problem.

Thanks I'll look at the left side again. And again. Lol

*Only chose this thread as it came up on a search and didn't figure a lot of love for this bike on this forum really..and I might find the owner above.

Understandable. It's not that we don't love this model, it's just a matter of it being such a rare beast. In the U.S. it was a one-year-only promotional bike (1983, though the bikes were mostly built in '82) and not every dealer got one. Those that did usually only got one to either sell or raffle.
