Yeah I checked just about everywhere I could think of online. On the bright side, got her turning over last nite, thanks to your schematic. Picking up a TCI unit tomorrow and should have spark.....and with any luck a running engine. Thanks again

i just got an 86 xj700n. this is my first bike. it was last tagged in '08. i'm guessing it's been 10 yrs since it ran last. i was told they used to clutch start it because it wouldn't start from the switch. i'm guessing at some point it wouldn't start at all. it had 2.5 qts of oil in it. didn't find any bits of metal in the filter or drain pan.

first thing i want to do is get the starter circuit working.

any suggestions on where to get parts? need an o-ring for the filter screw and a filter right now

our supporting vendor has the o rings www.xj4ever.com Info@xj4ever.com is Lens email , he is aka chacal on the forums.

some filters come with the filter cover o ring but it is not always the correct size. xj4ever has the correct sizes .

did you find the spring and washer behind the filter ? washer may be stuck to the filter. critical parts.

for the starter switch open up the control and clean the starter button contacts, use electrical contact spray cleaner. then smear with some dielectric grease

you should start your own thread in the tech forums put bike model and year in title your name or problem and we can follow what problems you have and what work you have done.
    ie to the max's 86 700n starter.
then post all your questions there even if they are not starter related

not starting at switch could be dirty switch ,failed/ditrty ground.
maybe you have a bad solenoid.

start a thread and we will move forward on how to get the starting system working
