Anyone from the Detroit area on the forum? I've had an '81 XJ750 here for a few years. Saw one other, tried to catch up, but lost him in traffic. Looking for a colortune to borrow or the name of a good shop.

Welcome. Mike! These guys here are awesome. I have a few of the Yamaha special tools if you need to borrow anything. And I'm always up for a ride Sunday or Monday!

Xj4ever has just about any part you could want, including manuals. I think I found mine on eBay before I knew about the forums here.

That's a really sharp looking bike, by the way. Have you found the thread called 'be the bunny'? There's a lot of wisdom from long time riders in it.

Who do you drive for? I currently work for jb hunt, so I don't get across the border, but I see all kinds of Ontario trucks.

I'm over here in Downriver MI. I've had my XJ650J Maxim since 1985. I done just about everything to this bike. I'm in the process of rebuilding a carb rack.

Welcome! Best of luck with those carbs! I've got a YICS tool, a vacuum sync, and a colortune if you'd like to borrow any of them. Do you hit up any of the bike nights in the summer?

I have not had the bike on the road for three years. I also have the tune/sync tools. Perhaps we can get together for a tune when the carbs are in. I'm hoping to be tuning in late Jan. I have a semi heated garage. I'll be cleaning and polishing between carb rebuilding. Let me know.

Sure! I'm off Sundays and Mondays, which I know makes it tough. And I'm no pro, that's for sure, you might teach me a couple things.

Not too close, but in Saginaw, Mi. XJ750 Maxim non-runner at this point. Winter project to start after Christmas. I cleaned and checked out the carburetors only because the bike didn't come with any carbs, so I went the local Yamaha dealer and got some used. I plan on a bunch of mods, don't really care for the bike in stock form but the engine is pretty cool, plus I don't mind shaft drive for this type of bike.
    Cheers, 50gary

Woot I'm out in Dearborn heights at work, literally just got my '81 XJ650 running Tuesday, been running the heck out of it since, needs a lot of work still, sync the carbs, tuning, valve lash inspection, some leaky gaskets. But still runs like a champ! Nice to meet y'all's.
