hi folks, Im having trouble with the conversion to all balls for my neck. I took off and out all races and put the new races in and they are fully seated. When I slide the stem into the neck it does not protrude far enough in for me to get my spanner nut on. And I see down below where the old bearing race and duct rubber there appears to be something holding my new dust cap and bearing up just about the distance I need for to get that spanner nut on;.
Is there a metal spacer or metal ring that might have been part of the dust cap that needs to come off a 550 ? any help will be appreciated. thanks

When you put the lower dust cover and bearing on the stem, did you freeze the stem and heat the bearing, or did you use a press?
The bearing is an interference fit, and will not go into place unless you use one of the two methods mentioned above.

^^^^ +1 freezing the spindle you can use a can of computer air spray hold it upside down, or put it in your freezer over night
