I am doing a minimal harness on my 650. My after market speedo requires 12v to light up the neautral indicator. Any ideas how to go about this? I understand that originally 12v would be at the indicator bulb and the switch would ground it in neutral and light up.

yamaha did the neutral switch by having the bulb always hot and the neutral switch was the ground to light the bulb.

it worked in conjunction with the clutch safety switch and diode block and relay to keep you safe.

do you have a wiring diagram for your speedo or link to it online?
can not advise on what we cannot see.

with min wiring the oil light is the most important light.

if you are not going to use the starter safety relay and clutch safety switch you do not need a neutral light always start with clutch pulled in

Only a wire color designation can with the speedo. It has a common ground and requires a 12v signal to light up indicator. Oil pressure indicator will be the same in guessing.

the only way you can set them up to work that way would be with relays using the neutral switch to ground the relay coil to activate it. the same thing with the oil light as the oil level sensor makes ground contact when oil is low.

with out a link or pic of wire hook up that is the best I can do

run voltage to relay coil and then to neutral then on the output contacts you would run a wire from hot side of relay coil to contact then a wire to bulb .

would not have to be a big relay possible to get a solidstate relay

If you're using the gauge that I think you are, you can ignore the oil warning. It's labeled in the manual as oil but it's actually the fuel level connection. The manual is very poorly translated. For example, I've never heard a six position connector called a "Six Kong Fang Inserted Instrument" and the nine position connector is a "Nine-core male tab"

    This gauge? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J77O0OS/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_dp

The 12volt site has good info on this. Here is a link that will help you:

Ya that's the one. Figured it might come down to a relay. My instructions weren't as badly translated as yours but still pretty awful...

    Thanks for everyone's help!

Isn't that the same gauge being used by Taylor and David and they did not have issues. What makes you think you need 12V for the neutral and oil light?

That cracked me up too, got to wonder who translated that.

I hooked the neutral wire into the gauge and it worked. No relays needed.

I guess that's the "joy" of Chinese quality control?

    Never overlook your Gamara!

Actually all three (picachu, Godzilla and Gamara) are of the same heritage as our awesome XJ's.... China has it's own 'monsters'.
