Here is my plan.drain all the oil out of this one.pour some transmission fluid down around the pistons.the cylinder block has a little surface rust but probably ok.what should i use to clean up the walls.and should i hone the cylinders. Ive never done that.i really dont want to invest $85 in a gasket set not knowing whats in the lower end.i also dont want to split the cases.

Um...the number on the tow bill? If that's not what you're thinking, why did you show us that? Now I'm puzzled

I know the xj is 2 valve.the small inline 4 head he gave me is a freeby.someone here might need it.i work night shift.i am going to take some better pics tomorrow. Where the carb manifolds bolt to the back of the head he broke bolts and really screwed it up trying to get them out.i have seen heads on ebay priced from $15.00 to $ 85.00. Every part i looked for is way cheaper than what i am used to.thats good. Xj forever has beaucoup info but i see no way to order anything. One member here was selling me an ignition switch.now i cant find him.is xj 4 where you all buy or is there another company that is good also?

I bought another head. Some problems in the future.I imagine the cam chain down inside the block is no longer in the right place around the crank.I can use a magnet to get it back up through the block but down below not.I will have to split the cases probably and that is scary. An excellent writeup with wonderful pictorals is here and thank goodness for that. Does the gasket for the oilpan get glued as does the crank upper and lower halves plus the cylinder base gasket? And how about the head gasket.Do you prefer yamabond? Thanks for the help.

you shouldn't have to split the cases just to put the camchain back on the crank sprocket, use the magnet to lift the slack chain up, then use a torch ,and it should just slip back on.
