XJ750 RL what exactly is it ?

    This is kinda doing my head in ... I have an XJ750RL.. the questions are

    1. Is the chassis an XJ900 ? and do all the associated bits fit it ? i.e. fork springs etc etc. My 750 does NOT have anti dive ....

    2. Where did the motor come from ? is it a Maxim motor ? a 750 seca motor ?

    Just trying to work out exactly what it is that I have ... oh, and it looks like this :D

    You got it.

    It's pretty much a 750 Seca motor in a Seca 900 chassis.

    ...some bloke on th innanet told me that there was about 900 of em put together outa th parts storage area at yam an' about 280 of em went to oztralia an outa that lot you will possibly still find variations ...... for instance

    Hey, nice looking bike, I've seen a couple in here before. As far as the anti-dive go's, consider yourself Blessed not to have it since depending on the age on the Bike you would probably be re-building that also now. Looks like you have yourself a nice set of wheels there, enjoy the ride but go through and check tire numbers, rear brake shoes, front brake lines ect. to first make sure that time and age are not demanding some repairs. grunt007, 81-XJ750 Seca R, Mi.

    I've got one to,and yep 900 chassis and 750 seca motor,mine has no anti dive on the forks either.

    @ Bigfitz... cheers. This ones a 45T model... Oztralian one ... same as the canadian one but different designator. I'll sift through that thread.

    Adrain and Bushy ... looks like I have more threads to get through... cheers.

    Incidentally, this one is a (now ex) Tasmanian bike. Brought it back to the mainland on Monday night via Spirit of Tasmania...

    thanks for the replies guys. Its not in too bad condition for its age. Has 48000km on it which I believe to be original.
    It's a 20 foot paint job.... the closer you get the more blemishes there are. Needs some work to put it online properly... brakes, carbs, valves etc etc... in other words, some TLC.
    I'll start a thread when I'm ready to get into it and post up some pics etc etc...

    They have a different Camshaft in them (longer duration) also the carbies have some extra vent/intake hoses up the top of the carby. Rolling frame is all 900 stuff.
    My 2 RL's do not have anti dive.

    We should start a 45T list of owner/bikes on here so we can compare notes & see how many actualy are still around.
    8O Check the frame for fatigue cracks just behind the seat latches, all 5 of my bikes have been repaired there. :?

    Hi Roadbandit,

    I have one as well.
    I picked it up at Easter 2011 thinking I would have it on the road in about 12 months.
    I'm not there yet, but getting closer.
    Hopefully by spring time!!

    Wadeys is now in my garage along with seven other XJs that I acquired from him (my wife thinks I have a problem!).
    Its build date is 12/83 and number is 296.

    I have 160 and the motor out of 365.
    Rebuilding 160 as the oil nozzle was getting eaten away by the hi-vo chain.
    Hope to be back on the road soon.

    thats a lovely looking bike rmunro13. Are they by any chance still the original exhausts ?
    if not, any ideas where to get a set ?

    Ozroadbandit - That's a Motad 4 into 1. Stainless steel headers and chrome exhaust.
    I ordered through Wemoto and cost about $ 500 AUD landed.
    The exhaust doesn't quite fit as it should as the rear bracket doesn't line up correctly with the stock mounting points but a small length of steel fixed that problem.
    I asked Motad what exhaust is the correct one fits the XJ750RL and they replied that their XJ750 fits all...they lied. Maybe the XJ900 one would be a better fit.
    Engine now in the frame and I will be terrorizing the streets of Perth soon.
