    I see, I removed mine from the tank to see it first hand. Now I understand. Working on rebuilding my carbs now. Hope to have them back together and on bike before weekend.

    SHE runs, got alot to do yet but got her to the point to start. Pretty blue flame out exhaust side of head.didnt run her more than a minute but yeah it was awesome.:D

    ;) lol I'll see what I can do. Still got something going on with carbs. She won't start unless I put hand over carb and crank to suck gas in. I'm certain those carbs are spotless.:confused: I haven't done is check float levels yet.

    I couldn't figure out how to post a video. So I posted it to my YouTube channel.

    Try the link. I setbfloat levels. I had to turn pilot mix screw out 4-5 turns to get it idling right. Color tuned her and she seems to be running/ riding good. That color tune plug is a life saver. I could see it running lean. At WOT it runs a bit rich. May have to change main jet or needle.

    It's an xj700 from 1985-1986... It will run a bit rich at wot. The 'slightly too rich' also helps to keep it 'slightly cool'......which keeps it from 'slightly burning up' due to running 'slightly too lean' for 'slightly too long". You Colortune at idle. That's why it's called an "Idle Mixture"

    You did figure out how to post a video. They have to be linked.

    You will need to redo the idle mixture once you have the exhaust in place.
    4-5 turns out is a lot.

    Sorry let me correct. The video is just me horsing around with it 2.5 turns. The exhaust is on now and it's 4.5-5 turns. If not throttle is sluggish or hangs and it lops at idle. Maybe I should go up from a 43 jet. Or learn to stop fixing if not broken Thought?

    pods for intake. Exhaust is 2to1. I'd guess if I put box back in I could turn it back a few. But she looks so sexy with pods:D the carb rebuild kit I installed is for a xj750. 122 main 43 pilot. Also came with a 112 which I didn't use. Not sure what that size was for.

    In any case you're lean.
    Not lean enough for the pods to cause that high of an idle on their own.
    Break the rack. Replace the seals.

    Looks ≠ go.
    If you want go, you'll need the airbox.
    If you want looks you'll need to rejet for pods after you replace the throttle shaft seals and check for any other intake leaks that may be present (spray carb cleaner is your friend).

    I have considered putting air box in and seeing if their is a different. I've already replaced throttle shaft seals and sprayed intake boots and sides of carbs looking for a leak.

    I'm backing up because I misread. That 43 pilot is stock. It'll work great with the aribox, otherwise you need to rejet (both pilot and main).

    The #122 main jets are way too large for this engine, pods or (especially) otherwise. Stock jets are #107 for an airhead XJ700. #43 pilots are too large also (stock is #36.5).

    If you're running lean with these sewer-pipe sized fuel jets then there is something else going on...........

    Ok so we are saying it's running lean based on fact that pilot mix is 4+ turns out right? I left 205#,50# air jets in top under diaphragm. Also based on cheats from church xj 700 carb don't use air compensators. It's 34 degrees here and this morning is first time she's started on her own.In theory I could have a fuel jet the size of a manhole cover but if I didn't put a proportionate size air jet it wouldn't allow negative pressure (vacuum) to draw fuel from bowl right? Thanks for replying I truly value you opinion.
