carb problems

    was hoping somebody can help me i got this 1982 yamaha maxin xj750 from a friend of mine. Its been seat doing nothing for almost 8yrs. I almost had it started but the carb r leaking gas. After the fact i had to clean them really good. I didnt know if there's anything else i have to do to make it stop leaking..

    where are they leaking from

    check the needle valve/seat and the float height..
    When you say you "had to clean them really good" did you completely break them down? How are the o-rings on the fuel rail....
    these are just few places to start

    its leaking out of the two small hole where the air enters the carbs. if u r looking at the carb with the bigger holes where the air enters theres two small holes and its leaking from there. yea i took everything apart the floats, jets and cleaned all of it. the seals and orings seem to be good there not leaking from there that i can see. do u know what the float height is supposed to be.

    Sounds like the needle and seats are in bad shape. You need to get some kits that have those and new float bowl gaskets. Check out Rick's old school carb cleaning and go through them again. You can also read Chacal's bit on carb cleaning in the vendor forum's. Hope that helps

    thank everyone for your help. ill try and put pictures up so u can see. ill at a look at forum it looks like alot of reading so ill get on it lol.
