    hi guys, this might be a dumb question, when i took my 1983 xj 650 engine apart i noticed the cam chain tunnel seal was missing!!!!? how important is this seal???, u c i bought the bike as a non runner,can i put it back together without this seal???? or can i buy one 8O

    I wouldn't trust the rebuild without the seal. Although the Crankcase is supposed to have a minimum pressure variant from blow-by gasses; at high rpm's the Oil is getting "Slinged ~ (Slung) ... with enough volume that it might find a way to compromise the Head Gasket.

    I'd replace it.

    This falls into the category of the "Part being there for a reason"!
