i want to mod the rear of my bike without chopping up my good stock seat in case i chage my mind. there are a lot of 750 seats on ebay for less than the 550 seats. does anybody know how well a 750 seat would match up to my 550? just in the front - i plan on making a solo seat by chopping the rear of the seat off just after the step and making new mounts for it.

    when comparing the two,

    this:

looks almost exactly the same shape in the front as this:

anybody have any ideas? if i get a 750 seat it would keep me from having to do alot of recontouring on the foam to lower the back of it.

    Unfortunately, it's not gonna fit.

The 750 seat will be considerably longer than the 550, and although they seem to have the same shape, the sides won't come close to fitting the same.

You would be better off to pick up another 550 seat and recontour that.

    Slightly off topic.
But how comfortable are those 550 style seats?
I was just browsing and found this site/product.

Depending on your budget they may also be able to resize/redo your seat using your existing pan.

Personally, I'm a lanky SOB so I prefer a wide, FLAT seat, like on the 550 Secas. A stepped seat like that "traps" the rider into one position.

yeah the stepped seat is dreadful. it shoves you into the tank and makes it so you can't adjust your riding position. plus, it looks bad.

guess there's no getting around using a 550 seat. i found one on ebay for $30 shipped, but the guy said he can't find it that it may have been thrown away by mistake.

    HI,

FWIW, I had my 750 seat re- done by a guy in a body shop that does boat covers, seats, etc.

By the time I added the money saved DIY, the hours wasted of doing it wrong, etc and high cost of really good seats... this guy charged me $135 to scoop the seat foam out, re- sew it - fix the parts I didn't ask him to and all I had to do was drop it off and pick it up-

This was due to my short legs... anther issue arose tho - unless I can remount the highway pegs down father - yet to be determined - I need to put forward controls on the bike so I can stretch my legs comfortably...all the time :)

They are on ebay - $175 and $49 for the connecting rods - but these are a bolt-on affair- no fabricating required.

    Good luck...
