Did a little searching, but haven't come up with what I'm looking for. I want to have hard bags mounted, but finding the Yamaha ones is proving difficult. While tinkering today I remembered that I have a number of empty ammo cans sitting around. So, I'm thinking about maybe using a couple can for saddle bags. Anyone have pics of this being done?
I also have some spent 50 cal. shells, might use them for something too.

I thought of doing the same thing at one time, but never found the right size I wanted. Either they are too small or way to big tolook right or hold what I need them to. I decided on a cheap set of leather bags instead.
It looks simple enough to mount using bolts to the frame on each side, but far enough out to clear the shocks.
I've since hard mouted my leather saddle bags using short hollow tubes to run the longer bolts thru to go to the frame to hold them out far enough sothey don't rub on the shocks.

    Should check out my gallery
I made two steel bar mounts and drilled holes in them and mounted under the grab bar
Looked sweeet!!! I'm finishing painting them for my new color scheme and they look even cooler. When I get back to DC I'll post a pic of the new color and put it back on the bike so you can see. But its awesome, convienient and looks real cool. You can reach back and pop it open at almost any time cause of the design.
I suggest using U Bolts wrapped in rubber or Vac hose and putting it behind the grab bar for easier installation and removal. Take a peice of felt and put it on the ammo can handle to reduce the noise they make when you hit holes.
Once again, easy, cheap, effective. Ammo cans look sweet on out bikes.

PS Would love some more .50 cal cans if you feel like selling

Thanks guys, that gives me some good ideas. I'm thinking I might remove the turn signals and mount some lights on the ammo cans for replacements. My frame has threaded holes on each side of the fender (assume for the OE tour pack) that I'm going to make use of.

They don't hold much tho'... I found the were not worth the work.
I used a couple of power tool cases instead, with the insides cut out - quieter too.

    Hi
Any one mounted ammo cans for saddlebags? I have a pretty standard givi type rack with 1/2" tubing (i think). Anyone have any creative solutions as to how I might mount my ammo cans? I figure i will creat a "L" shaped rack attached to the bottom of the can so that the can can sit on the rack. The top is giving me a headache though. what could I use as an easy "on / off" mechanism that can be locked for security? Thanks for any ideas!

Never took any pics... bike long gone now, the cases were from a builder friend, both from Hilti breaker/hammer drills. they had stainless catches too!
and only little bit noisy when empty.
