More like - what I learned.... (new to XJ's)

I learned that if you can START the bike in neutral but EVERY time you put it in gear it will shut off....IF ....you have the side/kick stand down.

Yea, it only took me 3 attempts to figure that one out......

** On a side note - I DID replace the broken side/fork reflector**
(one of the few parts from 1981 XJ750 that fits the '82)

One of my front turn signals got nailed by a rock, totally broke the lens. Of course, no one sells just the lens, so ordered a fresh four turn signals... At least I'm back on the road :)

Today, I took the Bike out for a tune. First I checked the ignition with colortune. It had a light blue flame on cy1 and 4, but I couldn't see any flame on cy 2&3. The exhaust is wark though, so there must be an ignition.
After this, I did the same with carbtune.1&3 seemed fine, and I had to tweak the screws a lot to get them close to equal, but then the idle shot up to 2k rpm. I have no idea what to do now.

Did errands first thing, doing some work on the XT now. Great weather after the non-hurricane.

got back from a two thousand mile road trip to sunny california. Played some biker games while there that resulted in a stopped drop so new blinkers put on out there. Ran the rear tire ragged so got a new one on the way home.

Gave it a new rear tire, new rear brakes, and took her for a few miles run to the Post office.

Put her in the shed... shed a tear... and started pondering on what parts are going to "mysteriously" disappear over the winter...

Finally got my carbs put together after they have been sitting since April. The bike hasn't moved all summer due to work schedule not allowing me to put it back together. Carbs back on the bike. Will run gas lines and start her up...... hopefully. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Fouled two plugs by starting a cold engine with too much enrichment circuitry! Gah

Also found two square yards of black waterproof UV resistant "leather" online last week and used it to recover my seat today. Pics inbound!

EDIT: Pics...Don't think I did half bad. Tried to use all one piece but it was a pain in the a$$ stretching it all over evenly. Had to resort to two separate pieces. Fine by me!

Gotta fix the butt slide ridge that came up, and make a rolled over seam where the two pieces meet. Anyways, heck of a lot better than the stock stuff! I'll get another pic up when it's done.
