Just curious which emblems are correct and the original type that go on the sides of the gas tank on the 1982 XJ1100? I have two on my bike that are stickers and then clear coated over, but I have also seen the type of emblem that has the two (2) screws to attach the emblems to the side of the tank. Which is correct and came on the bike when produced? Thanks

They originally came with the type that screws on. Most likley a PO has filled in the indentations where the sicker is now. If they did there is not much you can do now unless you strip the entire tank. But then you don't know if the tabs are dammaged. You might be able to use double stick tape to put a original back on. The XJ 1100 tank badges are unique so other year modles won't fit in the original screw location. If you use tape others should fit but I'm not sure.

I agree; For stock appearance, I would use a set of the stick-on badges rather than chance the mounting points being buggered.

It's also possible that somebody swapped tanks for an earlier (or later? I'm not an 1100 guy) model tank and there are no mounting points under there. There were a lot of Yammies of the era with decals as you describe, both of my SR500s had decals not "cast" badges.

Personally, I'd go with one of these badges from Mike's XS and apply them with double sided tape. I attached metal GS badges to my Suzuki last year with it and it is holding perfectly. Just make sure the paint is super clean before you apply it. It holds EXTREMELY well.
