I want too make a sync tool but looking at the Mcmaster carr cataloge The highest temp silicon tubing only is good till 300 degrees. Anyone know where to get a higher temp rubber tubing ? Also, just how hot does that part of the engine get ? Thanks

Just go to Lowe's (or such) and get their clear tubing. Temp not a problem there...

Your tool should only be on the bike for a short time, minutes. I've got the clear tube from HD and had no melting issues.

If you're concerned you could use a piece of vacuum line for the last bit onto the nipples with a union to connect to the clear tube. Vacuum line doesn't melt there. It works your petcock.

To answer the question, I purchased silicone tubing from McMaster Carr but any well stocked supply house will have it. Orange stuff can hang in there for quite a while. I will echo Skillet however, you shouldn't need to be in there for very long if you can't find the silicone.

I've used "Medical Industry" Oxygen tubing (clear silicone??) and the ends fit the vacuum ports perfectly. There's no melting issue - even with "fish tank" tubing. Cheap clear tubing will yellow and harden if used for the petcock vacuum tubing but not right away.

NO WORRIES. That's how I feel about Lowes all the time, not just when I'm fabbing up something to use for other than its intended purpose.

It usually goes something like this:

Lowes' guy: "What did you plan to use this for?"

My daughter: "You don't want to know."

    Lowes guy: "Sure I do."

My daughter: "NOT what it was designed for, that's for sure."

    Lowes guy: "Nevermind."

    at the risk of derailing;
I had this chat at Schmucks auto today...

"I'd like a 20 mm oil plug please"
"what brand of car is this for?"
    "Yamaha"
    "oh okay... er...I... uh... er..."
"If I say it's for a Honda will you give me an M-20 oil plug?"

Fitz, you have an awesome daughter. Among friends of mine, we all know NAPA stands for National Aircraft Parts Association.

I think this fellow wants rubber for the YICS port blanking tool (that goes inside the cylinder jugs), not the vac balance gauge "synch sticks" that attaches to the intake manifolds vac ports. That's why he want to know how hot the YICS chamber gets, and why the temp rating of the tubing is important.

The temp of the passage varies by how long the engine runs, but to be on the same side, you can figure 400-450F+.

Fakeplay, I made a synch tool and used some fuel hose and I melted it. So I think you are right in being concerned.

I know you should only have the blocking tool in the passage for a few minutes but it took me that long to get my two bottle synch tool to settle down - by then - it was too late - my synch tool came out of the passage looking something like what you scrape off the grill when you make toasted cheese sandwiches.

Here's my solution; it's not the blocking tool that's the issue - it's the synching tool. When you use the two bottle method it takes more than twice as long to synch as if you have a four guage manometer. There is an outfit on ebay that is selling a four guage manometer for about $50 including shipping. In my opinion it is the best $50 I have spent in a long time.

Make sure you install the restrictors they give you with the guages. Then when you hook them up to your carbs you restrict the flow until you get the needles to barely flutter (NO flutter is BAD). It will take you about 2 minutes to synch your carbs. Well within the "no-melt" time frame for whatever rubber you use on your blocking tool.

I have done my seca and my son's Katana and it works fantastic! Neither bike has ever run better.

Just went to Lowes myself and bought the parts necessary for building the two bottle synch. Snapple bottles and ATF. Beats the living hell out of a single tube mounted on a board. I finally gotten my carbs in synch!!! YAY!

Well I'm a tool junkie! Just ask my wife. If I can afford to buy the tool I do. I always have a "Is it working properly??" Question in the back o my mind when it come to making tools. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against making your own gadgets. I just don't trust the ones I make :( . They usually end up costing twice as much as one I could buy and don't work as well. So to avoid a lot frustration and losing my cool I bite the bullet and buy them. At least I end up with new toys and with the number of bikers coming past my place during the summer I at least have the tools to help out fellow riders. Someday maybe I'll even have carb sync BBq/party down here. Close to Port Dover for PD13, close to the beach at Turkey Point. PARTY/PARTY/PARTY.....oh sorry just on old fart getting carried away!!!!

I found at my local hobby shop, a small exhaust deflector, made from a heat resistant silicone tube. It is .380 thou outside, which is a perfect size to make the tool out of. You can view this at www.dynamiterc.com and the product number is DYN8750. There is enough material in one exhaust deflector to make one YCIS tool.
