Figured it would be easy..have done it to a few older model cars. But when i open up my rotted ignition...i found five sticken wires.

was hoping somebody here might have a clue as to how to make this happen. couple extra switches laying around so if i need multiple toggles to make this work..i'm prepared.

thanks ahead of time guys...help is super appreciated

Put your bike year and model in your signature so we know what you are working on.
Might be easier to buy a used switch off EBAY. You would not have to do any fabrication work to mount switches or mess with wiring.

The Ignition on our Bikes is only 3-wires.

A Brand New Ign Switch is not expensive.

The Ignition Switch is your First Line of Defense against thieves.

Don't discuss circumvention in the Public Forum.

We certainly don't want to. It's ALL OF OUR first line of defense.

Good point. I don't really want anyone to explain on the 'web how to hot-wire MY bike too.

Just like I won't post the secrets to changing the odometer.

Or disable the steering head lock, etc.

Some of us have the knowledge to nick a bike in 30 seconds, but we won't let that knowledge be used against our members, or anyone else. Things like ignition, odo, etc. are not necessarily bike specific.

Why do you need a new switch? Could just clean the one you have.

Some ignition switches have 5 wires, as the low battery fluid sensor wires pass thru the switch..........

    Question!

Hopefully not too much of a thread jack...

This I have always wondered! Is there a steering head lock on an 83 maxim 750?? I have always thought there ought to be, adms there's even one on my dads super old Yamaha scooter. But I've never found one to work on my max... Kinda sketches me out...

There should be unless it got broken along the way.

When the key is OFF and the handlebar at full left lock, try pushing the key down, then let it back up and try turning it further to the left beyond OFF.

There is a "LOCK" position as well as a "P" position (further yet) that turns the taillight on. But you need to push the key down first (then let it back up) to engage them.

And, it may still not work if your ignition switch is dirty/gummed up/corroded.

Sooooooo it seems to not work.

Is it rebuildable some way? What is the part that is most prone to failure/the issue?

    Read this:

    New ignition, old keys

It will pretty much explain how to clean/rebuild your old ignition switch as well.
