Quick Help on Engine Change between years!

    I have a n 80' Xj650 in need of a new motor. Someone is offering me a 82' XJ650 for a reasonable price. Is this a direct swap? THe 82' has yics but is everything else the same? Help! Need to know right away. Thanks

    There's a minor carb jetting difference, and maybe an issue with the tach cable??

    Most everything should be the same but you'll have to go with an electronic tach because the 82 engine does not have a tach drive.

    Thanks guys for your help! When I got there ( 2 hour drive) it turned out to be an 81' with the tach drive so I guess thats a bonus. Looks like some of the parts are off a 750 (like side covers). got to investigate further...
