Looks expensive. I was going to buy a transitioning shield for my helmet but bell discontinued it and anyone who still had stock raised their prices. It would be nice not to have to switch shields

Go to any auto-parts store. Get a small roll of vinyl window tint. Cut a 1 1/2 to 2" strip as long as your faceshield is wide. Place it along the top edge of the shield.

Alternatively......become myopic and get Transitions lenses.

I like it not always being tinted.

That's why I have just a strip of tint along the top of the shield. As the sun gets lower in the sky I just tilt my head down a bit, otherwise I'm looking through a clear shield.

I've got an HJC Helmet with a "One-touch Integrated SunShield" which you basically lower and raise with a switch and button on the top of the helmet. It's really great when I commute with lots of buildings around, as you can have the sun in your eyes for a stretch, then it hides behind the building and everything is too dark. I just flip the shade up and down as I need it, one handed, while navigating traffic in DC.

The shade is a little cheap and the helmets isn't necessarily the best, but I really like the feature. It might seem a little gimmicky, but I use it a lot. The only real complaint is that the sun shield isn't treated with the same anti-fog coating as the main shield, and WILL fog up on a cold day.

Cost as much as that LCD when it's on-sale 8) . Of course you can add the LCD on a higher quality helmet.

The internal sun shade on my Scorpion has become a favorite feature as well.

I have two shields for my helmet, a clear and tinted. However, I rarely use the tinted one. I work 3rd shift so it's dark on the way and light going home. I usually just wear shades when its sunny. Next helmet I get will have the flip down shade...will also be a modular.

I've used this product in several helmets and it works really well:

    "The Original Helmet Sunblocker" www.helmetsunblocker.com

It's about $16 delivered and works on the same principal as the cut to fit window shading idea that k-moe mentioned above. You can leave it installed on a non-tinted shield and it won't interfere with your vision or line of sight.

I have Paul jr shades you can buy from Walmart. The lenses are interchangeable. The shades come with a tinted set a red tint set and a clear set. 20$ I believe.

DO you put it inside or outside your shield? It would be easier outside but would wear a lot faster, but maybe I wouldn't care if it is real cheap!

They don't work behind a shield as they need UV light.

Mine work behind a shield just fine. 8)

Most face shields only block UV A, some block UV B

Transitions lenses will darken when exposed to any wavelength of UV light (either A, B, or C)

Of course there is always going to be some variability.

I put it on the outside of the shield. When I first started using the vinyl tint (about '92) I put it on the inside, but it was more difficult to fit (had to trim it so the shield gasket would seal properly. The current strip I'm using has been on for about 10k miles and doesn't need changing yet.

Lucky you. I got a pair a couple years ago and they would not change under my helmet or with the windows up in the cage.

Now I've got a helmet with a flip down sun shield.

That is pretty cool but a bit pricey for my taste. I spent about that much on my helmet and it came with an integrated inner smoked visor. All I have to do is push a lever on the top of my helmet and it lowers the tinted portion. A button releases it for the clear-only visor.
