Well my XJ650 is at 25,700 miles. I bought it May 2011 with 15,300 miles.
Who has put 10,000 miles on their XJ's? Not a big deal for many of you, but I thought it was cool, especially since my miles are all from recreational riding. (I can't use the bike to commute since I need my work truck everywhere I go!)

I have; I've put right at 10K on the '81 since it went back on the road; and my '83 is at 9882 since recommissioned.

Congrats. Time for another valve check. (Every 5K remember.) Me too.

Ya, Fitz, just checked the valves 2 weeks ago. Swapped two shims.
I forgot to say in my post, that it has been 10000 nearly trouble free miles.
Only hiccup has been a roadside stall with a bad fuse clip that I was able to mcgyver with a piece of foil. Never been stranded by the bike!

Now I hope you replaced that crappy clip style fuse box with an automotive blade one. :)

Not me man, I rebuilt mine. (I'm old school.)

Both of mine have been trouble-free as well; just oil, plugs, chain adjustment and regularly scheduled maintenance.

It occurred to me last night as I was headed back home from Dayton along I-75, that I realized how much riding I've done during my delightful & youthful days. My speedometer unit on the 650 maxim I own started with almost 14k when I bought it. Last summer I had a serious mechanical mishap with it (hence the signature status) and around the same time purchased a 550 maxim. Because I fooled around with the 550 maxim speedometer unit, I said "let's just keep track of my mileage on the 550 while I slowly fix the 650". So I swapped units and have been keeping track of total mileage driven. Last night the speedometer rolled over 27k :D

For only being a young adult (mid 20's) I'm glad to say all of my riding experiences have been on XJ's. I feel proud to tell all my buddies, "hey it may not be a 'beaut' but at least I know the guts of my mode of transportation"... I think they understand how so many people these days don't bother to work/understand vehicles, and when you've mastered several engine rebuilds or at least learning more about the mechanics you can come to appreciate all your understanding. I'm glad to have stuck with the XJ's so far!

I have about 45,000 miles on my XJ. :D My son is taking his motorcycle safety course next weekend. Once he gets his learners license he can start putting some more miles on it.

Wow, are those all your miles? Are you the original owner?

I'm 11k on mine, but 5800 of those were from riding across the country and back last month, lol

Yep. I'm on track to do 5k a year. 90% recreational riding in the mountains of Northern New England.

Registered the '82 last July 25 with 5.7k (that's original miles, no joke!) on the clock and I'm almost at 10.5k now. Another 250 mile Saturday loop and I'll be there.

Since following all of the awesome advice on this forum, I've had no problems with my XJ. The same cannot be said for some of the other bikes I ride with.......And they're much newer and prettier.

I should post a pic of my XJ. I don't ever have to lock it since most folks don't think it'll start let alone keep up with them. Then the last thing they see is my backside disappear around the next curve.
