So here I sit on the side of the road. I took off from a stop light and 1/2 way through the intersection something with my throttle broke....bike runs fine but when I twist the grip nothing happens. It just flops back and forth. No springing back to closed....no throttle. Oh yea...and no tools. Got a buddy coming out to help. Wish me luck.

Sorry for your bad luck! I feel you though man. I was leaving work yesterday on my Seca for class, just got out of the parking spot when my bike started to act funny, then my clutch handle went limp and my bike died. :/ Hopefully its just the cable like mine.

Either you cable snapped, or it popped out of the bracket on the carb rack. Check to see if it just popped out of place first.....

    ( a day late )

If you're close to home, and the roads are safe enough, you crank the idle up and ride home.

If you're clever, and the cable will reach, you swap the "choke" over and use that as your throttle (very carefully)

The throttle cable snapped right at the handle. I was about 50 miles from home. A friend came by and we loaded it up in his truck and went to all 4 of the bike shops in town and nobody had a cable. I went to ace and rigged it up so I could get it home. Got the part online and fixed it up right.

Now I washed it and all I'm getting is a click from the starter solenoid? Could it just need to dry out or am I buying parts again. Grrr. And I'm stuck at work for my 24 hour shift.

Jump the terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver. WATCH FOR SPARKS.

If it cranks, you need a new solenoid.
    No cranking means starter rebuild.

I bumped the end of the starter and off she went. I put the battery on the charger just to be safe. Looks like its time to rebuild the starter. Thanks again for the advise folks.

    Glad you got it going.
Unlike bike shops, Chacal stocks everything we need.
Reminds me of a similar situation but with the clutch cable snapping.
Luckily,I had a good tool kit on board.
Used needle nose pliers as a "clutch lever" and got home.

You're not the first one. I know another list member who had a cable break on his way home from the LVCC. He used a pair of vise grips from PA to CT.

Cheap insurance: ZIp tie spare cables next to the current ones. Make sure they are lubed, and seal the ends with either heat-shrink tubing, or friction tape, so dirt does not contaminate your ready-to-go-spare-cables.
