    Hi Gang,

Just got my XJ750RJ running and rolling, state inspection will be tomorrow, if it's not raining. I know, fair weather rider. So, in my shake down tests I have discovered a slight couch on throttle roll on when going from throttle closed to say just open. I have synched the carbs, used the YICS tool and done the correct procedure as stated here. I believe the carbs to be fully clean and have soaked, de-varnished and generally pampered them with new jets, float valves, etc. The diaphragms are good and I have new carb mount rubbers as well. The only thing I can suspect is that the vacuum port caps my be leaking, so I'm going to replace those.

But, any other suggestions on what this may be caused by ?

I know it's hard to diagnose via e-mail, but I'm just trying to see if there's anything I have missed. The bike is stock, no mods, runs standard airbox, filter and exhaust system.

    Thanks ...................

    Did you check your valves?
Did you colortune and then sync again?
You have to do all the things needed not just some of them.
Proper proceedure is to do the valves first then clean carbs, then sync them, then colortune, then sync again and color tune again.

Valves are good, clearances are within spec. Haven't colortuned, just synched after the clean. The issue in my mind is more electrical as it's intermittent. Sometimes the bike is fine, other times it hesitates a bit the goes so I'm going to replace the high tension leads from the coils to the spark plugs. I'm not discounting the Air/Fuel mixture as an issue, but want to be sure I have good spark first. I'm assuming there's a write up somewhere on setting the mixture screws ?

The idle air screws can be set at 2 to 2 1/2 turns out as a baseline. Most of the time they end up at 2 3/4 turns out.

This is an embarrassing update but, turns out that no matter how sparkly clean the jets, airways, slides and floats are. You need to remember to check the fuel inlet nozzle to the carbs too. Put them back on only to find the inlet is blocked solid and no fuel is getting to the carb bowls. What a plonker!
