It's called the petcock isn't it? When I switch it, it leaks fuel on to the ground and a little fuel comes out the side of it. It's underneath the tank on the left side it says res, prime, and on. Phone won't let me upload picture. My dad did not take care of my bike while he had it.

That would be correct. At the top of the page is your catolog xj4ever. You can rebuild it. Chacal has them. (The parts guy). Do a search here for the DIY.

Thanks. My dad kept it in a garage for five years. Before that he left it outside under a carport with no sides. He never took care of it because it isn't a harley. Frustrating as hell

    What year/ model?

Don't be angry at you father, he brought you in to this world.

Fix the Petcock, rebuild the front and rear brakes, check valve clearances, make sure tires are safe (date code) . . . See how she runs.
Then figure on carbs being rebuilt, replacing cables, replacing rear shocks and most likely font fork seals.

Your (?) bike will now be a thousand times cooler than any Harley.

P.S. have a manual handy, ask lots of questions here and plan on spending around $800 to get the girl back in a safe reliable condition.

The carbs have recently been rebuilt cleaned and synced. Sometime this week I'm going to the local yamaha dealer to get a gasket for the cam cover and a petcock. There's a motorcycle shop that carries tires I need to go stop at. Thank god for spare wheels lol

Ouch. You need to learn about XJ4Ever. The Yamaha dealer will charge you WAY TOO MUCH for those parts. Also, depending on what bike you have, you may need more than just the valve cover gasket. If it's a YICS motor, you'll need the rubber/metal composite "donuts" that go on the hold down bolts.

I'm sure the lack of maintenance extended to the valve clearances; check those right away.

That petcock might be able to be rebuilt: http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/index...ng-the-yamaha-vacuum-fuel-valve-w-pics.25058/
