Bit frustrated... I have removed everything I can think of (battery box, carbs, starter motor) but still can't get that airbox out of the space it's in. It's really no big deal, I just want to clean it, but does anyone have a secret to get this thing out? It's SO close, but just can't seem to get it out.

At least on the 650 seca I had to remove the engine to get the air box out. You may need to at least get the engine mounts loose to tilt the engine.

You can also try a heat gun to get the plastic to flex and squeeze it out.

    Good luck.

Google search works much better than the forum search.

just type site:xjbikes.com after your keyword.

Also, being helpful is easy. If someone aks a question it deserves a proper response. That's how a community forms.

It appears to me that most times the reason for the removal of the box was to put on an aftermarket airfilter... and based on my research, most have struggled to remove that airbox. I think since I'm just planning on cleaning it, that I will just leave it in it's space and work around it.

That was going to be my advice. Most people that remove them just cut them to pieces.

On the 550 Seca, you'd need to drop the exhaust system and remove the front motor mounts, allowing the motor to pivot forward a tad. It shouldn't be necessary to remove the motor; just "move" it.

The other reason, of course, is that you scored a parts bike and either want to use that airbox intact on your running bike or sell it to someone who wants/needs one. So now I know how:) I'm assuming the boots can stay on or do those need to come off too? Oh wait - better check the forum more closely......

With the carbs and starter removed, you can get the airbox out and back in. I have never had to shift the motor itself. It will come out the right side of the bike.

It must be a "close tolerance stack up" thing. I DID have to shift the motor to get mine out. Maybe I should have been more emphatic (medieval?)
