    hi
I have just got hold of a 1985 seca in pretty poor condition.one problem is the swingarm is rotted out and the shockers are rusty.
I was wondering what people are using to update with. does the alloy arm off a more modern Yamaha drop in possibly with the monoshock as well (I will be removing the airbox and using K and N filters) .

cheers for any info. I will post up a few pics once the build is underway

You can make anything fit with the proper tools and skills. I know that at one time there was an alloy swingarm available for the 550, but I imagine they are difficult to find. My first thought is to adapt the swingarm from a pre-diversion XJ600 if you want to go that route. The easy way is to get a good stock replacement for your 550 from a breaker.

The other tool you'll need is money. Lots of it. It gets used up pretty quick, so make sure you have plenty. If you run out, just go get more. It's readily available, and there's all different sizes....but any of the sizes work--you'll just need more of the smaller sizes if you use them. I don't know of any with lifetime guarantee, though. ( I don't think it would be wise to use any aftermarket versions, though......stick with original--it works better, and you can avoid a lot of trouble.

Being a long time custom builder and modifier I must say these are the 2 most useless troll-like posts I have ever received.
This forum is titled XJ MODIFICATIONS .

I gave you honest advice based on what I know can work. I will refrain from doing so again.

    Whatever.

    If it helps, I'll clarify:

The original poster asked about changing swingarms, and whether it's possible to do, or replace with a modified one of some sort.

K-moe Replied yes you can modify just about anything, Depending on what tools you have.

I replied you'll probably need a lot of money too.

    That's not trolling.

If you think it was too wordy, I'll redo it for you.…

"drop in" i kind of doubt it. at the least you will need spacers and bushings. is the frame sound? that seems to be a problem on some of these, i've never saw a rusted out swingarm problem here

you can use the swing arm from a 86 to 90 radian yx600. they have the duel shock mounts and should be a direct bolt in on the 550 frame.

I am just about to do this very swap on my 82 550 seca.
