    the purpose of this thread is to chronicle some of the stupid repairs the previous owners did to our beloved bikes.

    I will start off with the use of a dent puller and fiberglass to repair a dent in a fuel tank.

    Before ethanol became widely used as a gasoline additive, patching a tank with fiberglass was a good repair.

    As soon as I saw your posts about the trip when you discovered the patch, I was like "That would be perfect for the PO thread!" and then K-Moe tells us it was a common thing. Maybe it's just an old patch from pre-ethanol days. I still think its crazy. Once again, I learn something new here.
    At least they pulled the dent out instead of filling it with more glass.

    I never said that a fiberglass patch was common, just that it was once considered a good repair when done correctly. Some of those "crazy old coots" even used to make whole gas tanks out of fiberglass. ;)
