I'm looking for people who've got similar bikes to mine ( 81 Seca 750) it's my first bike and haven't ridden it yet.

I'm not near Yelm, but I used to be about a decade ago. Take an MSF course. Do all the maintainance that the bike needs (make the assumption that it needs everything on the service checklist done). Ride in town until you get comfortable, and keep it under 4,000 RPM for the first month of riding so you don't scare the poo out of yourself.

I know it needs servicing my dad let it sit for five years in his leaky garage because he's a Harley guy. I've been through the wiring and repaired broken wires. I'm down to plugs, plug wires, exhaust, and tires. It runs great but still gonna do the tune up. The tires were bought used five years, still have tread and no weather checking. But not taking chances.

Don't skip checking the valve clearances.

Had a guy I know check the valve clearances. He says they're good ( he owns a motorcycle shop and has had a couple of these come through there)

    Hey.

Live on Onalaska, and work in Centralia. You're not too far from me.

Did he make a chart of what shims are currently in the bike? Ask him for it if he did. If he didn't then at least ask him what the clearances were on each valve. I hope he used the clearance values that are inside the side panel; the values in the service manual are wrong.
Knowing what shims it currently has will save you time if you need to do any adjustments at the next valve clearance check.

I've seen a green xj there a few times that's super clean and in great shape. I've always been on my cb450 since my seca has been in project mode for a while and won't likely have done for this next month either :|. Backfire is awesome though, great vibe and always a ton of cool folks to chat with. Seeing all the local creations is a blast.

so are you planning to be there this month? if so, look for this bike, I shouldn't be far away, and introduce yourself. I would love to meet you, so we can talk about all things "xj". I would love to hear about your project too.

I'm up north on the Hood Canal, about an hour/ hour and a half from Yelm. Bought a '82 750 Seca a few weeks ago, to boot.
