Hey everyone. Recently we have experienced an increase of spammers on here. So, I have implemented some anti spam measures today. I won't go into details as to what was implemented because we don't want to reveal everything to the spammers...

One thing that changed for new users. New users with less than 5 posts are not allowed to post links to external sites. So, if they post non-site related garbage then hopefully this will be caught in the first 5 posts ;)

Ya think? It's gotten so bad I didn't even want to check the recent posts without logging in.

EDIT: 3 links removed by SnoSheriff

Not sure it's working. Just logged in and found those three right off the bat. Linked to the posts in question.

I don't suppose all those spammers have a common IP address that they're coming from...?

I implemented the changes yesterday evening and the 3 above were posted prior to my updates. So those need to be removed manually as you guys report them. Simply click on the 'Report' link in the offending post and I will see them...

Nope, different IPs, different locations, different user ids...

@schmuckaholic I just punted the 3 you mentioned above. I will remove the links in your post above as well. Thanks.

I did some more cleanup of spam posts in the forums...

The spam logs showed me some more spammers that attempted to post their garbage on here today but they were stopped by the system. Seems to be working :D

Hrm. Thought they had been done afterwards according to the timestamps, but I probably read them wrong.

Thought as much, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. The differing userids would be a given, as I'm imagining there's automated software being used. I'd be mildly interested to know if those IPs match out to proxy services or Tor exit nodes. Can the use of proxies or Tor be blocked here? I know that Craigslist blocks Tor.

Just took a quick peek, and not seeing anything. So far, so good. :)

I still like my idea of crossposting from here to the comments page and/or facebook pages of the kitchen cabinets or nutritional supplement products in question. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, yes?
