I saw a thread on here the other day where some guy had a white xj750 with K&N pods. He had his fuel levels visible at all times and clipped onto his carbs permanently. What is the technical name for hose clips that will fit on these carburetors? I would like to do something similar. Also how did he keep the drain screws from leaking where the head of the screw is? My drain screws will leak if I loosen them even a tiny bit! Should the drain screws have an O-Ring on them?

Corey, I'm not sure about the clips you're speaking of, but for the carb bowl drain screws, I highly recommend you picking up a set of these:

They are tapered to fit perfectly in the bore and do not require a o-ring. Additionally, they are stainless steel and have a large hex head.

Chacal @ XJ4 ever has them. Click the icon at the top right hand corner of any page on this site. Look for part # HCP8878SET4.

I have a set on my 700N right now and I have another set waiting to go into the Seca carbs.

I apply just a touch of anti seize lubricant on the threads as well...

Spend the money on these... You will not be sorry.

I have the new flat head ones that came in the carb rebuilt kit. The problem is that if I loosen them just a tiny bit fuel will leak out where the screw goes in. They do not leak when tightened properly. So if I purchase these they shouldn't leak out where the screw head is if I loosen them a bit?

Why would you want to do this? This provides 4 more avenues for gas to evaporate and stink your garage. What happens in the rain?

Just to be sure the levels are always correct? :) Not sure if that is necessary, or how often these carbs get out of tune. I suppose you could put a one way check valve at the end of every hose to combat rain.

your levels will not change once you set them properly.
your drain screws should not leak at all. or you would not be able to set fuel levels properly.
where did you get your rebuild kit?

It's just barely even a drop that comes out at a time, but it adds up and becomes visible.

Ok I'll scrap the idea haha.

The good ones from Chacal have NEVER been a problem for me. Loosening then should only allow fuel to come out the port, not the screw hole itself.

Thank you for that information. Could I put some thread sealant on these to prevent fuel coming out of the port?

Nooooo! They work perfectly AS IS! As a matter of fact, It wouldn't hurt to put a touch of anti-seize on the threads... not to much though... just enough to keep things moving for next time.

once gas gets past the taper on the drain screws, it's going to leak that's just how threads work.

I think it's my bike your referring to. Here are some pics of the mods I made for the float bowl fuel level gauge . I also removed the drain screw and replaced it with a shorter stainless hex screw with crush washers, never has leaked.

do you run it with open drain screws ?or did you add the setup so you can check fuel levels when ever you want?

So if you come off, how can you be sure you won't spill fuel?

I added a shorter hex screw to replace the drain screw so it's open all the time and and added the fuel line to check the fuel level at all times. I have run this setup since I restored the bike last year and have no issues with and it did show me I has a stuck float at one time.
