Hey this has been my winter project, still nowhere near complete , the plan is to fully dry build then strip and paint engine and frame.
Still playing with ideas for side covers or possibly opening that section out but don't think I can hide a battery powerful enough for the bike.

    What you think so far?
    Always open to suggestions:

xj550 or xj 650 tanks look the most cafe. Sadly the later XJ600s and 900 were as ugly as a stick with their 'Kryton's Face' style tanks. I owned a 600 in teh early 90s because it was the best/newest thing I could afford but I always disliked the look of it... Your Fazer is nicest - had one of those too in 2000 for a few years.

if you can weld you might want to look at Kawasaki tanks or hondas. some kawasaki tanks are long and could potientally fit into the same footprint of your current tank.

82 and 86 xj550 or xj650 seca tanks are nice and could work well too.

I'd guess one would have to make a new wider tunnel for this to fit an XJ bike? Then I would also guess the capacity would be quite a bit less?
    Cheers, 50gary

I do love my Fazer , Great daily rider , I'll have a look at some tanks in the future , gonna try and finish the bike with this first and see where it goes.

New seat pan on the go today and thicker foam to save my nadgers lol and I can't deal with that gap between the seat and the frame ( skateboard deck with concave )

if you are planning to replace the tank do it first before you make the seat. if you make the seat first and then swap out the tank, you will most likely have to make a new seat.

Keep the Fazer nice too (FZS600 to you US guys) they'll soon be a classic .. 20 years old already. BTW how did the tank lacquer turn out? Did you 'wipe test' it with a rag and some fuel? I'm keen to know if there's anything from an aerosol that will standup.

XS850 has a double backbone, so the tunnel is wider. Otherwise, the appearance is the same. The downside is the XS850 standard is not as common as the XS750.
