So I got some new tires and when I went to put the front wheel back on I've noticed a gap and was wonder if this is normal? I don't think the forks are bent. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'll post some pics to show what I'm talking about.

Did you tighten the pinch bolt first? It gets tightened after the axle nut.

I haven't tighten the pinch bolts yet only the axel nut. I figured something wasn't right with that gap.

The fender is off so is the brake.

Now that I think about it a while ago I had a shop press in one of my fork seals because I couldn't get it in.

I think I might have to check that again.

I'm confident that the forks are straight.

I can see the "Head" of the axle (on the left side) hitting the speedo as I'm tightening the nut and pulling the wheel to the right. So, the bike has 52k miles on it. Is it possible that the axle is wearing out?

I believe that the max and seca have the same axle, so tomorrow I can swap the axles and see what happens.

Axles don't wear out. The bearings would have to fail catastrophically for that to happen, and you'd KNOW it long before the axle was damaged.

What's more likely going on is that the forks are slightly bent (small deflections cannnot be seen when looking at the forks on the bike). Loosen the trees and spin the upper fork legs until the gap is eliminated.

^^+1 on the tube rotation to lessen any gap

put the fender back on it may pull in the lower tube. can you push the tube on the speedo side into place with a finger?
also is the slot in the speedo hub clean and bur free ?

I've tried that. I can try it agin. I've take the forks off and inspected them. I'd think that the fork would be significantly bent to make a 1/4'' gap. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Yes, I can move the whole wheel over when the castle nut is loose. The slot is free.

I'll post a picture of when the nut is loose and the speedo is in the slot. It's when I tighten up the nut it pulls the wheel/speedo from the slot.

Well that fixed it. No gaps on either side. I thought about that but the manual said to tighten the axel nut then the pinch bolts. Whatever. She's on the road again.
