    Hello

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I couldn't find the answer after some searching. Looking to see if the exhaust headers on the xj650 are the same part between the maxim and seca model. I have a seca xj650rj with headers that have seen better days, and wanting to know if I can replace these with maxim header pipes. My collector and mufflers on the seca are in great condition, just need to replace the headers, as the PO had wrapped them.

    Thanks

I have played around with this same question for a while. The general consensus is as long as you have a set of 4 from the same bike they can be made to fit however, I think the early 650 Maxim might be an exception. They did not use the same style collector under the motor and it almost looks to me that #1/4 and 2/3 terminate at different lengths. Stick with 650 or 750 Seca or 700 & 750 Maxims and they should fit. I have a set of 700 headers I planned to use on my Turbo until I decided to powder coat the original set for hi-temp application. That might be another option for you to consider.
My sidecar Seca has a Maxim-X motor with 750 Seca head pipes feeding into a Turbo 4-1 collector. I can verify that all fits.

I'm thinking that I might just have to rewrap the pipes. I'd love to go back to the all chrome look, but feel that mine are a little past that point. I think i'll re-wrap for now and then at some point in the future look into a 4into1 setup. Then there would be a good collector and mufflers up for sale for someone on this site.

The Maxim pipes are completely different and although they will physically "bolt up", they won't "swap" properly. The Maxim pipes are designed for a bike w/o a collector, and thus are configured differently....if I recall correctly, the #1 and #4 Maxim pipes are bent in such a manner so that they are located "outside" of the frame downtube, whereas all models with a conventional collector system have the #1/4 pipes "inward" of the downtubes.
