So, my speedometer is most definitely very, very wrong. Going downhill in fourth gear feeling like I'm about to be thrown off from the wind, and it says I'm only doing 30 or so. At low speed the speedo doesnt even register any speed at all. The odometer still tracks what I assume is accurate, it says I've added 13 1/2 miles since I've gotten it, and with me driving only on my street to learn how to ride it, I could believe it being 13 miles.

So, what is y'alls such more educated verdicts on my speedo? Should I just buy a replacement cable, or a whole speedo assembly?

Do the simple thing first, unthread the cable from the speedo , you can pull cable out of the cable sheath . Inspect cable for unravelling , if it looks okay, use a good quality grease and run it on the cable . Reinstall cable and reinstall actual cable into the speedo drive and rethread . Take it out and test , a common issue is the speedo internal gimble bearing dries out speedo will make a howling noise is usual symptom .

I haven't noticed any howling coming from the bike, a valve clicking I think I've heard, but I'll check it out when I get home

Hey Bolakar, did you get this fixed? What did you do?
I'm having the same problem and have read most of the threads about the speedometer

Nope, did not get it fixed. I've just learned to ignore the speedo and read my speed off of my gear and rpm. I have to do the same in my truck because its speedo is dead

Disconnect cable from speedo, raise front end and spin the tire... Does the cable insert turn? Can you stop it with your fingers? If the answers are Yes, No, the speedo is bunk.
