I have lost my spacer that sits inside the final drive (diff) that the rear wheel relies upon for my XJ900...
I do have the spacers to suit a XJ750 but looking at parts lists and actually testing it out it seems to be much longer than the XJ900 version would be.

Any chance someone has one lying about and can do a metric (or otherwise) measurement for me?
    Thanks!

I've attached a pic of the bit I mean also.

Actually... wrong part altogether... i think!
According to what I'm looking at it is the same part number between the 750 and the 900... but it seems to stick out further when I insert it in the 900 diff in comparison to the 750 diff... mucho confusing.
    ack...

This looks like the right bit,

They are the same part. It's possible that the spacer you had was too short, homemade, or from a different application to begin with.
Be sure that the bore is clean and free of hardened grease before fitting the spacer.

    Aha!
First time install for this diff and after a fiddle the reason was the sleeve coming from outside pushed into the diff.
There was a washer jammed in on the outside, between the swingarm and diff that was wedged into the side of the diff.
A couple of taps on the spacer from the inside and the washer popped out and the sleeve is realigned.
    Funny one.
