I'm interested in this, mine doesn't have it! I wonder if it is for something to do with heated grips?

Definitely not factory, are there wires running to it?

I don't think it's heated grips since I already took those ugly grips off and there weren't any wires running to them. I thought it was factory at first since the mount looks like a stock piece, but after a closer look I see that the wires are neatly wrapped in black electrical tape rather than the nicer black tubing used by Yamaha. They are kind of extra long and make a big loop on their way to entering the back of the headlight bucket. I also have a green wire coming out of the headlight bucket that used to run to the air horns that I removed, so I guess I need to get in there and sort out someone's mess.

Switch removed! It was the red wire tied into the green headlight wire?? Seems very strange...

Likely.. someone may have had a set of driving lights installed. They are running (whatever?) off the low-beam circuit.
