    Hi,

New here, just got an xj550 seca project on the go. Wiring was a mess so bought a new harness.

In my haste i didn’t realise I’d bought a harness for an xj550 maxim.

My question is, is there much/any difference between the harness’ ?? Or should I look at buying the correct harness
    Thanks
    Adam

Blimey, I was wrong. Best thing I can suggest is to check out this link to the interactive 'Seca' diagram and cross reference to the Maxim loom you have.
Note that by using 'mouse over' you can even see where some wiring elements are supposed to 'live' on the frame. We are indebted to the guy that made this!

    Cheers

seca has a fuel guage, volt meter, and 2 directional light indicators Seca does not have a separate bulb for license plate light the maxim does. that's the only things different between the 2 harnesses as far as electrical items.
I do not know if the harnesses are the same physical size. I will look into it this weekend on Saturday. I have both harnesses on my bench

would have been here sooner just saw the post.
the "parts" are all in the same location on the frame of the Maxim and Seca. but there is a slight difference in the frame Maxim is 100 mm longer.

on the maxim the turn indicator bulb grounds through the opposite blinker bulb than the direction you are turning. the 2 seca turn indicators ground to ground

another thing is that the blinker connector pins can be a smaller diameter that the maxims.

I must have sold the maxim harness but all the parts are in the same location on a maxim as a seca here is a dimentional layout.
seca has 2 horns and tail light connector is different
from headlight connector (without extendor to voltage regulator is 56 inches . zero point on drawing is the right controller connector, if you need more detail just ask I can photo harness at measure points and go deeper into all the connections

I do assume you are asking about a 550 seca or maxim
this link helps you ID relays and the location on bike
The Ultimate Relay, Switch, Sensor, and Diodes Guide

    from above

Starter/Ignition cut-off relay (no color): front of coil rear mounting bracket.
Sidestand (kickstand) relay (blue): left side, behind rear frame cross tube. at tool tray
Headlight relay (yellow): behind ignition coils, behind flasher canceller.

I will get you some photos too.
