Hey, yes, needs a special charger. If needed you can charge a few minutes on lowest and slowest setting with a car battery charger, but it should really be avoided.
When I buy this kind of battery, I look for size, CCA, max input (from charging system) and positioning of the terminals. But I usually buy for custom location on the bike where I need a small battery.
I'll check later to find out what type exactly I was running on my xj.
Shorai, if I remember correctly, also lets you search by bike model and should give you the correct battery. I like the shorai because they have a USB size plug for charger and you don't have to hook it up on terminals.

not sure how to answer your question....
Mine were a different model (smaller) but yes, looks about right.
don't forget to order the correct charger as well. It should come with a charger cable that plugs into what's behind that gray cover you can see in the pic (between the two terminals).

Yes I looked at the charger and the cool way it connects that would work great on my bike.
Problem is the shipping. Seems that I may have to pay over $100 to ship the battery!!!
Waiting on an answer from Shorai on this.
Thanks for your great help so far

I see you are in Europe, they don't have a similar brand?

My search has not yielded any leads yet, and because of the ambiguity of the verdict of the posts in this thread, I wanted to go with a tested solution.

Ultrabatt, no need for a special charger as they have a built in battery management system and you can use some standard battery chargers on them if they meet ultrabatt guidelines, self discharge rate is low so unless you leave something on it's unlikely to need it anyway

I tried two a few years ago.... am totally NOT impressed. I was told they did not need a special charger, it went bad in a few months, never had enough oomph, they determined it was a bad battery and replaced it with a "good one"..... that one was no different. I'm not buying another.

There was a forum on that, too, but it was several years back and I can't find it at the moment.

The likes of the ultrabatt with built in BMS (battery management system don't, but not all of them have that

Awesome bit of kit. Couldn’t do a custom build without one again.

    Yeah, definitely agree there.
I have the previous version, but the blue is even sweeter.

It’s a shame though all this time and money I have spent on my Xj build and I can’t ride it because I can’t figure out a silly carb problem.
    High idle.,
Will leave that to a different thread..

Old thread but a follow up.
Lithium battery is getting replaced after 6 years.
Putting the exact same back in, love the CCA output.
Still has voltage but not a lot of capacity for charge and... it looks like it ate to many mexican pizzas, ie. bloated.
