Hi I’m new to riding and new to this forum. I just recently got my first bike, an 82 xj750 maxim. I absolutely love the bike and really want to keep it in top shape for as long as possible, I’ve seen so much already about maintaining a healthy bike but I’m having trouble finding which, if any, additive to add to the fuel to help keep the engine running well for longer. Please let me know any suggestions y’all have.

    thanks

If you run though gas quickly enough, not usually. I run 87 octane with ethanol all season long without a problem. Near the end of the season, I change to non-oxy (ethanol free) and keep Stabil in it. When the snow hits, I just top off the tank with a final bit of non-oxy and plug it in.

    Not problems yet.

There are some additives out there to slow down the effects of ethanol, i use non ethanol fuel now which is harder to find but i only ride a few hundred miles a year and keep the tank full,i also spray the inner latch of the fuel cap and the neck of the fuel tank with wd 40 to prevent rust.

I use ethanol free gas and use either SeaFoam or Mercury Quickleen in every tank. Original owner of the motorcyle and never had a fuel issue yet.

Welcome to the site. Take the time to go up tot he right hand corner of the page, click on that icon and get to reading all about the great XJ bikes. Using the search engine is also a great way to find what you are looking for.

From what I have read the fuel companies already put additives for cleaners ect into their gas. BP advertises it on their pumps along with others. The idea above about changing over to a non ethanol gas at the end of the season seems to work the best for most people. Add some type of non varnishing additive to that gas is a good idea too.

If you can, run no ethanol gas... but if you do use ethanol gas use an addictive that will reduce the ethanol affect. Because these carb have rubber parts in them that will dissolve. I use sta-bil.

Fuel additives remind me of the 'gender select pill' for your offspring. Take pink for a girl during conception, blue for a boy. Money back if if doesn't work.

My vote is don’t use it. Just give it a run regularly and top up fuel every now and then. Same sort of thing to keep your battery good.

I run a little Marvel Mystery oil every two or three tanks. Never had a problem.

Google this, " top tier gasoline " and find a stockist of it near you.
You're lucky you have it, we don't, with the odd rare exception of Texaco.
