So I just bought a 1982 xj750 maxim with just under 30,000 miles on it. $350. Runs and rides. Anything specific I should look out for on this bike? It’s my first bike, so I don’t know too much but plan to learn. I know I have an oil leak somewhere as I woke up this morning to a puddle of oil on my garage floor. Best way to find gaskets for these?

Oil leak under the filter, engine or from the air box drain?
Best spot for gaskets and parts can be found on this site, top corner image (XJ4Ever), or eBay

Oil on the floor may actually be gas leaking into the oil crankcase. It is a fairly common issue, if your float valves in the carb aren't sealing, you may be dumping gas into the crankcase and airbox. Check the oil level to see if it is risen. Sniff the oil to see if it smells like gas.

Thank you all for your input. I. Was told it needs an oil change so I’ve picked up a Wix 24934 and have no idea what kind or how much oil it needs

    STOP.
    No oil change yet.
    First do your homework:
    Read This First

While you're reading, pull the oil filler cap and sniff what's in there. If it smells of gas, then you absolutely MUST NOT START THE BIKE until you fix the problem that is causing gas to get into the crankcase.
