    Hi all,
I would like to re-chrome a gear link assembly however the electroplaters advise it needs to be disassembled first. I'm a bit wary about pulling the ball joints apart as they are a tight fit, does anyone know if they will come
    apart without breaking? IMG_1340.JPG IMG_1344.JPG

I had the linkage on my spare engine as I recall was loose at the ball end and I could get it to pop out . But I think you can use a small wrench and turn the ball end out of the bracket .

I attempted to remove the ball joint & found it's permanently attached, tried heating with no success & wasn't too keen on getting red hot as that may damage the fitting.
It can't be partially-chrome plated so will have to look for a replacement part.

FYI they were nickel plated. Not chrome.
A kit from Caswells should do the job without disassembly. They have kits that use sponges to plate without total immersion.
Start with a good clean and buff though.

I had an electro plating kit from Eastwood using a six volt battery actually worked quite well for nuts and bolts and small parts .

Len just advised he can source a replacement part so I'll get the new lever, but the plating kit sounds like fun so think I'll do that as well

How well does the chrome stick & does it produce a hard finish? Why did you stop using the kit?
Eastwood have a distributor in nz which is a bonus as it would be difficult to ship chemicals internationally.

your pieces actually look pretty good.
Buy new rubber grease covers and toe rubber and your good to go.
Chacal even sells the L-R threaded adjuster and nuts.
    Electroplating here is ridiculously expensive.
I find it cheaper to buy new parts (if available) then to consider re-chroming.

It's the same here, got some electroplating done earlier this year & it wasn't cheap. There's also a 5 month waiting list.
