I approve. Buffalo Trace drinks above its price-point.

It’s about the same here, depending on what the local taxes are. The unfortunate consequence of whisky becoming popular is the price increase. I can remember being able to buy top-shelf single malt for under $20.

At least. As a comparison the inexpensive stuff hasn't increased in price by nearly as much in the U.S.
Even 5 years ago the aforementioned Buffalo Trace was selling for under $30 U.S.
You can still get a good bottle from a new distillery or blender for undet $20 here, but that only lasts until they get enough of a following to justify increasing the price.

700cc for $30 at the moment overhere.

    BUFFALO TRACE 70CL
The Bufffalo Trace Distillery is a family-owned business with a history dating back to 1887 and is located on the Kentucky River in Frankfort Kentucky in the United States, where the buffalo crossed the river during the buffalo migration. Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is distilled by the most awarded distillery in the world. Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon is aged for at least 8 years in American Oak barrels and uses the traditional "rye recipee" for bourbon. An accessible bourbon whiskey, nicely balanced between the sweet taste, the slightly smoky, spice and softness.

I'm not familiar with bourbon and will give it a try one of these days.
The bottles in my vault are mainly scotch single malts.

In general Burbons are on the sweeter side (due to the corn). Not quite as sweet as an aperitif, but almost. Buffalo Trace has just a hit of sweetness compared to other Burbons, but is definately not like a single malt. I think you'll probably like it. It was one of the first Burbons that I tried and really liked.

I'm hoping to be able to go to Dogfish Head's new place in Cincy eventually. They do make quite a few good beers. I'm not too keen on the "hipster-yuppy" vibe that I get from the layout of the place though. I prefer small and laid back. Preferably with the ability to bring our dog inside.

Then you would love the pubs in Ireland, kids, dogs and most are under 300 square feet.
