Trouble is the needle warps over time from the sun, and rubs the inside of the glass lens. And you will likely see evidence of hazing in that sweep area.
You could dissect it, then lightly heat and straighten it (big project), or find a decent replacement.

Do I have to change the whole cluster or can I just remove the tachometer and swap it with another one

You can remove the gauge and replace it with another. Get one for the X. Airhead and virago ones are interchangeable, but the redlines are at different points.

if y0u want to repair your tach yourself, here’s a link to a write up I did awhile back on how to get inside.

    So, go to:

    www.xj4ever.com

click the “how-to’s” link then click on the link called ‘repairing your 700 gauges’. It’s the next to last one on the right column.

The full process is right there. It is for the xj700/xj750/xj700x/xj750x/xv700-750-1000-1100 clusters

Then you have issues on your end. It’s not the site, and it’s not the link.
