I'm new here, recently bought a 80 XJ650 Maxim project bike and I've been searching for a new battery. The manual says to use a 12NI2A-4A, but I was wondering if there are any others I could possibly use in place of that one, being as none of my local shops have them. Thank you for any help.

So do I have to use that specific battery or are there substitutes I can use?

You can use any battery that meets the physical size, post placement, voltage, and cranking amps requirements.
Most sellers will have a cross-refrence by application.

If you can afford the extra initial cost of an AGM battery, get one. There is an overall cost savings because an AGM battery will provide longer service, and won't spill acid if the bike should tip over.

O'Reilly's says that a B14L-A2 will work so I'm assuming that one would be ok also?
And I found an AGM but wasn't sure if the CCA being 220 would be too much? I'm not too familiar with batteries

The higher the CCA the better it is the ability to start the bike in cold weather

AGM all the way! Less mess (no vent) and better performance. I have the MotoBatt in 2 of my bikes.
