can we agree that in the pictures, it's on prime. if you take the fuel line off, gas should pour out. if not, drain the tank and remove the valve, take it apart and have a look. it might just have some guck in it and that's all that's wrong. don't spend money unless your sure you have to

I was thinking more about getting the gas line so it wasn’t sitting on the engine than the flow of the petcock. I think this is the on position? 67B438A2-F362-467B-8237-713F9BC38655.jpeg

Before repairing my petcock I looked at new aftermarket stuff and determined they are all no good. Used OEM + possible repair kit seems the only way to go.

The see-through line is fine. It just needs to be replaced about every year or two.

to go to RES it would have to go CW from 6 to 9 , there's a stop by the R, it looks to be at full CCW now

I ordered a new oem petcock from partzilla.
I just don’t feel comfortable with my gas line directly touching the engine. Also don’t know how that nylon elbow would stand up to the heat.
Probably could have rebuilt one but I didn’t feel that the price difference was worth it. I wanted to try but my gut was telling me not to. The petcock is supposed to arrive on Wednesday, and my new tires are scheduled to be mounted and balanced Tomorrow.

You're using the wrong pipe clips - get some spring ones of the right size.

This is about right, use original/repaired original or new old stock if possible....

Installed new tires, new petcock and redid fuel lines this evening. Bike started right up, went for a quick 10 min ride on the highway and on twisty back roads and the bike ran excellent even after getting to higher rpms, used to be that if you went above 6000-7000rpm that afterwards the bike would start to hesitate and sputter. I took it to 9000 and afterwards didn’t notice any hesitation. Came back and changed the oil and filter for the first time. Also got my manual today so I found the right torque specs for everything.
Felt like I accomplished a lot!

I noticed the stock petcock has a much bigger port for the fuel to flow out of than the aftermarket one, the aftermarket is much smaller in total overall size as well.

I definitely need to do some longer rides to see if the sputtering comes back. If so then I’m going I check the valve clearances, then next thing would be the ignition switch.

Nice maxim, I'm struggling to like those "buckhorn" bars though.

    Thanks
I’ve been on the fence about keeping these bars or going back to the dirt bike bars that I used to have on it! Like the look of the flatter bar, but can’t beat the comfort of this

flat bars will require a different master cylinder then there is the issue of the cables and brake hose.

Just thought I’d give you guys an update on the bike. After putting the oem petcock on it leaked at the bolts, the old seals were basically non existent, so I ordered new ones and that fixed my problem.
Since then I’ve put around 200 miles on the bike with no sputtering or hesitation.
I really notice a difference in how easily it starts and how smooth it runs now.
    Thanks for the help guys!

Running into the same issues now on first startup. I also purchased one of the aftermarket style petcocks shown here and am having problems keeping the bike running more than 10 or so minutes. It pops and sputters after it warms and cannot run off choke. Seems like a fuel starvation issue with these aftermarket style petcocks. I'll try popping my OEM one back on later to see if it runs well again.
