I’m looking at buying 2 1/2 xj750 X police bikes one has rebuilt motor with quite a bit of work to do to get it on the road the other one is basically spare parts and there is also another motorJust wondering what would be a reasonable price to pay for this package

Agree, I think price goes up in warmer climates when they're able to be ridden 12 months a year.
Price of old used motorcycles is probably lowest in Canada where most of the population puts zero value on them.
As you're talking about 750 police specials I suspect you're in Australia as most of these discussed here are down under.

You've already assessed that it's going to take a lot of work to get it on the road.
The only way this will be at all feasible is if you're doing the work yourself.
Purchasing replacement parts alone will quickly add up to the resale value of the bike.
Consider the seller's "motor is rebuilt" to mean that it's been monkeyed with and you will need to rebuild the motor and fix his mistakes.
    Do you like to tinker?

    Yeah mate
Ok I’m getting a bike that needs quite some cosmetic work some electrical no mechanical the engine was rebuilt by my mate who is a mechanical engineer so that’s all good the second bike is maybe running but would need a lot of work and the other one is basically just an engine The main bike has no fairing which I would like to rectify the second bike has the old W.A. police fairing which again is not my liking I would like something that looks like the Japanese xj750 fuel injected model around the 8384 model I think or the 650 turbo You know the sharp looking fairing so if I get this I might have quite a few spares up for grabs but I will be looking for parts as well

Sorry I thought as we were discussing Western Australian police bikes we were in Australia hence I didn’t think to validate the point that I was in Newcastle Australia
That being said I’m not getting the bike from Newcastle
It’s from a mate in WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The XJ police bikes were sold in several nations. There is at least one in South Africa, and there is a Newcastle there too.
They have also been sold in the grey market and shipped internatonally.
There are many Newcastles in the word.

    As to your question:
Austraiila and Indonesia got more of them than anywhere else, so they aren't necessarily going to get a premium. Start your offer with whatever is the local standard for any bike in that condition and negotiate from there. Don't let yourself pay more than you want to, or are able to pay without any regret.

At the top right of the first post, click on "Watch Thread".

The fully faired bikes you're looking at used different frames, so you'll have to make mounts for the fairing from those models (or find a full bike and restore it).

And full fairing for a start
The other bike has the police fairing and other extras this bike I will look at selling or swapping parts apparently the motor runs also there is another motor
When I get round there I will check serial numbers etc
