Been a while sense I have posted about this bike. Just finished doing a engine swap from a 82 Seca to this Maxim frame. It is not a direct swap out but very close. The rear of the engine fits in just as it should but the front engine mounts are a little different. Same places on the frame to engine but the engine mounts themself s are a little different.

The reason I wanted to change the motor out was simple. The OEM one from the Maxim #4 piston was shot from the water. I drained the oil and the engine was full of water and oil mix. I thought I would be smart and just swap out the engine and it would be a snap...not so much so. I guess I should have maybe just rebuild the Maxim engine and kept that. We will see how it goes, I put the carbs on her a little while ago. I will fire it up tomorrow and see how it goes.

I had to make a spacer for the front engine mounts, there was a little gap. The OEM on the Maxim was rubber mounted. There were three rubber mounts on the Maxim and non on the Seca. I transferred the 1 into 4 exhaust and carbs with the donor bike as well.

That is correct. The mounts are different. I believe you’ll need to swap the shifter cover and shifter pedal assembly, too, but look at those closely in relation to the footpegs. You may want to refer to the “engine swap” section of Len’s “Information Overload Hour”.

Mr Fox, you are correct the left side cover will need to be changed to make it look correct. It will work in the mean time for get the bike up and running the way it is. I saw the bike listed above and it if was closer would buy it. Looks like a full bike for a good price.

Speaking of side-covers, I'm looking for a Right Side cover for my 82 Maxim XJ750... Anyone have one for sale?
